3.10 Systemic nasal decongestants

 General guidance
 

  • Systemic nasal decongestants taken orally may be less effective than if applied locally, but they do not give rise to rebound nasal congestion on withdrawal. Although some can have unwanted sympathomimetic effects.
  • However, their use should generally be avoided.
